NPCC Sentosa Outreach (02/12/13 & 09/12/13)

We were given a chance to contribute back to society through the Sentosa Outreach Programme on 2nd December for the Sec 1 and 2 squads and 9th December for the CL squad. Our unit collaborated with the Singapore Police Force to raise awareness on Crime Prevention through handing out tissue packets with specially designed packaging to remind people to watch out for their personal belongings.

Upon gathering at Vivo City, we then took a monorail towards Waterfront Station, where we were briefed on the rules and guidelines, and more importantly, on the objective of the whole programme. We were also reminded to uphold the image of NPCC, and then changed into bright yellow shirts discerning us as Police Youth Ambassadors. We were split into teams and off we went around approaching patrons of Resorts World Sentosa and Universal Studios Singapore.

FIRST STOP: WATERFRONT STATION

Initially, most of us were quite shy at first, approaching patrons in large groups, however, as the day progressed, we found the confidence and courage to approach people individually! Despite the language barrier and constant rejection by members of the public, we kept a smile on our faces and persevered on.

Within no time at all, we proceeded on to our next stop, Beach Station. As it was raining on 2nd Dec, the Sec 1 and 2 cadets enjoyed a longer break time, and were confined to the station alone. However, they exhibited great wit by giving out more than one tissue packet per patron, and managed to finish giving out all the packets of tissue in no time.

SECOND STOP: BEACH STATION, PALAWAN BEACH

2nd December 2013

9th December 2013
The weather was great on 9th Dec, thus the CLs had the opportunity to take a ride on the tram towards Palawan Beach, where we were shown poisonous residents of beaches at Sentosa, and also taught how to keep safe around the beaches. Braving the hot sun, we approached scantily clad beach go-ers to give out the tissue packets, as well as pamphlets detailing beach safety tips.

Everyone's hardworking and growling stomachs were rewarded with catered lunch prepared by the staff of Sentosa at the end of the day. All in all, everyone had enjoyed themselves and were better equipped with skills such as public speaking, confidence, the value of perseverance, as well as the courage to step out of one's comfort zone! All the effort put into had paid off as the experience was definitely worth it!
