Inter-Unit Quiz Competition 2013

Held on the 16th August 2013, 10 of our CLs participated in the NPCC Inter-Unit Quiz Competition organised by NPCC HQ. The NPCC Inter-Unit Quiz Competition is a biennial event, aimed to cultivate the quest for knowledge among NPCC cadets.

Before the competition, the CLs were separated into 2 teams, comprising of five people each. We did not really know what to expect from the competition. Research on different topics such as NPCC Knowledge, NPCC history, organisation and structure, Singapore Police Force History as well as current affairs of Singapore were carried out. We delegated our work and compiled all our research on Google Docs and the information was shared readily amongst everyone :D

On the competition day itself, we proceeded to Home Team Academy for the Preliminary Round and sat for a written paper. As we stepped foot into the competition venue and witnessed many cadets from other units reading through their materials intensely, we were a bundle of nerves when we entered the competition hall, however, little did we expect the atmosphere to be light and jovial! Answers were discussed amidst laughters; jokes were made and camaraderie was developed among teammates :)

Although both teams failed to enter the Finals, valuable lessons were taken away from the competition. Besides acquainting ourselves with many interesting trivia about NPCC, SPF, Singapore and current affairs, we also learnt life skills such as time management, teamwork, responsibility,
communication and the ability to tackle complex questions whilst learning to share and accept diverse perspectives of others. Challenging our assumptions was also one of the keys to unlocking different views and opinions we had about the questions in the written paper.

I believe the CLs had truckloads of fun during the competition and it was en enriching learning experience for all of us! :D

Chung Cheng High School 74th School Anniversary Guard-of-Honour Contingent 2013

On 20th July 2013, our school marked its 74th Anniversary and official opening of Chung Cheng High School (Main) New Buildings. The cadets from our NPCC Unit, as well as those from CCHY NPCC Unit, formed the Guard-of-Honour Contingent of the opening ceremony, welcoming our distinguished Guest-of-Honour, Mr Heng Swee Keat, Minister for Education.

While the event might not have been as grand as the previous year, there was still a palpable tension in the air as cadets from both CCHMS and CCHY changed into their Number One uniform. The cadets repeatedly checked each other's uniforms, ensuring that they looked their best and as smart and stately as possible. They then proceeded to the hall, lining up in 2 rows awaiting the start of the opening ceremony.

The level of excitement and nervousness was at an all time high. With final checks of their uniform and corrections to their salute, the cadets proceeded into the hall in an orderly file.

It was a joyous event as the school celebrated the occasion with performances by CCHMS Chinese Orchestra, CCHY Festival Drums and numerous award presentations such as the Chuang Wei Liang Mathematics Award, Chuang Chu Lin Scholarship and the 'Student of the Year' Award.

In commemoration of the 74th Anniversary and the Opening of our new School Buildings, Minister Heng launched the Chung Cheng Heritage Trail ICT Mobile Application, which allows students to navigate around significant sites of the school and explore the school's rich culture and history in the designated hotspots, and at the same time preserve the school's rich heritage.

As part of the CCHS family, we rejoice in this heartwarming occasion and look forward to the brighter years to come! :D
